A-Level

A-Level (GCE Advanced Level) is the UK's high school curriculum and examination system, serving as the most classic academic pathway for undergraduate applications to UK universities. It is accepted by universities in the UK, Hong Kong, and many other countries worldwide, with some US, Canadian, and Australian institutions also recognizing it for credit transfer. Students typically choose 3–4 subjects (e.g., Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Economics), take exams per subject, and receive grades from A* to E. For Chinese students, A-Level can be taken at international schools or through self-study with global exam centers. It offers flexible subject selection (allowing students to play to their strengths), and individual subjects can be retaken to improve grades. This system is highly advantageous for applying to top UK universities, especially Oxbridge and Russell Group institutions. UK universities issue conditional offers based on A-Level grade combinations (e.g., A*AA). Note that subject selection must align with the target major's requirements (e.g., Medicine requires Chemistry and Biology).
